Susan Wilson

Susan Wilson is a partner in the Austin, Texas, office of Novogradac & Company LLP. Ms. Wilson specializes in accounting and auditing of affordable housing developments, including those subject to the auditing requirements of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and real estate consulting for developments that qualify for low-income housing tax credits (LIHTCs) and renewable energy tax credits (RETCs). She is a frequent speaker at industry sponsored conferences and serves as chairwoman of Novogradac & Company’s annual Tax Credit Developers Conference in Florida. Before joining Novogradac & Company LLP, Ms. Wilson was president of AuditWatch of Texas, a firm specializing in providing training and consulting services to the audit profession and nationally recognized as experts in auditing. Before that, she served as a manager for Watkins Uiberall PLLC in Memphis, Tenn., where she specialized in accounting, audit and taxation in the real estate, HUD multifamily, contractor, local government, nonprofit and manufacturing industries. Ms. Wilson is a member of the board of directors of the National Leased Housing Association. She received a bachelor’s degree in business administration in accountancy from the University of Memphis and is licensed as a certified public accountant in Texas and Tennessee.
Denise B. Muha

Denise B. Muha serves as the executive director of the National Leased Housing Association (NLHA), a post she has held since 1988. The National Leased Housing Association is a membership organization involved in the development, management and administration of federally assisted rental housing for persons of low and moderate incomes. In addition to overseeing the day-to-day operations of the association, Ms. Muha works with NLHA's 500-member organizations to formulate policy on issues impacting the assisted multifamily rental housing industry and represents these positions before the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Congress. In her role as executive director, Ms. Muha has presented testimony to various congressional committees including the Senate Banking Committee and the House Financial Services Committee on numerous affordable housing issues. Ms. Muha was a key player in the development of landmark housing legislation that addressed the preservation of more than 1.5 million units of affordable housing developed under the Section 8 program. She recently was successful in encouraging Congress to pass and the President to enact legislation to thwart administrative burdens that reduce investment in low-income rental housing. Over the years, she has developed numerous training seminars sponsored by NLHA. In addition, Ms. Muha is a frequent lecturer at housing related conferences. Ms. Muha, who holds a bachelor’s degree from Thiel College, serves on the advisory boards of the Housing and Development Reporter, Assisted Housing Management Insider and Tax Credit Insider and is a director on the Bollinger Foundation board, the NLHA Education Fund board and the board of trustees of the National Housing Conference. She also is active on the board of the National Foundation for Affordable Housing Solutions that purchases and renovates older assisted housing to preserve a scarce housing resource.

Monica Sussman is a former U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) executive with nearly 30 years of experience in real estate, Section 8, FHA Multifamily programs and affordable housing law. Her practice focuses on all types of real estate transactions, and housing and community development law. Before joining Nixon Peabody LLP, Ms. Sussman held the position of deputy general counsel at HUD, where she oversaw the Office of Insured Housing, the Office of Legislation and Regulations and the Office of Finance and Regulatory Programs. Before her HUD appointment, Ms. Sussman practiced law with several Washington, D.C., law firms, where worked extensively on transactional real estate and corporate matters, representing numerous lenders, owners and property managers. Ms. Sussman began her career at the New York office of federal affairs, as a legislative counsel with the Governor’s Washington office, where she concentrated on housing issues. Ms. Sussman is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Virginia. Ms. Sussman earned her bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University and her juris doctor from Hofstra University School of Law.
Stephen J. Wallace

Stephen Wallace is the leader of the firm’s affordable housing practice and one of the nation’s foremost authorities on the preservation of government-assisted housing. He has been very closely involved in the legislative and regulatory development of the various federal affordable housing preservation programs over the past 25 years. Mr. Wallace is a member of the District of Columbia and New York state bar associations, as well as the American Bar Association’s Forum on Affordable Housing and Community Development Law.
